VALUES AND EXPECTATIONS
HONOR THE GAME

The Lake Forest Lacrosse Association believes that boys should develop skills and a love for the game of lacrosse while also learning the value of sportsmanship. Additionally, lacrosse should be fun for players, parents and coaches. We require all parties to honor the game by complying with the expectations laid out below.
PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

Commitment: Players are expected to attend all practices, games, and team events punctually unless valid reasons for absence are communicated in advance.
Skill Development: Actively work on improving lacrosse skills through consistent practice, training, and a willingness to learn from coaches and teammates.
Sportsmanship: Display good sportsmanship by treating opponents, teammates, coaches, and officials with respect, regardless of the game's outcome.
Responsibility: Maintain and care for your equipment, uniform, and gear, keeping them in proper condition. Maintain a disciplined and focused approach to practices and games.
Positive Attitude: Approach challenges with a positive attitude. Players can contribute to a cohesive team environment by supporting teammates and cooperating on and off the field.
Adaptability: Players should be open to adapting to different positions, strategies, and game situations as directed by the coaching staff.

PARENT EXPECTATIONS

Supportive Role: Parents should be supportive of their child's participation, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and personal growth over winning. Provide encouragement and emotional support to your child, focusing on their enjoyment and effort.
Communication: Maintain open communication with coaches about player availability, concerns, progress, and any other relevant information. Respect coaches' decisions.
Sportsmanship: Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating respect for players, coaches, officials, and other teams, both during and after games.
Attendance: Ensure players arrive on time for practices and games and are picked up promptly afterward.
Feedback Channels: Use appropriate channels to address concerns with coaches, avoiding confrontations in front of players or other parents. If issues arise, address them respectfully through appropriate channels and seek resolution in a constructive manner.
Logistical Support: Ensure timely transportation to practices and games. Arrive on time and pick up players promptly after team activities.
Stay Informed: Stay informed about team schedules, updates, and important information provided by coaches or the lacrosse organization.

COACH EXPECTATIONS

Professionalism: Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, continuous learning, and a commitment to the players' well-being.
Player Development: Coaches should prioritize the holistic development of players' skills, character, and teamwork, fostering a passion for the sport. Prioritize the development of players' skills, knowledge of the game, and their overall growth as individuals.
Sportsmanship: Instill values of fair play, integrity, and respect for opponents, officials, and the spirit of the game
Safety: Ensure a safe environment during practices and games, addressing any concerns related to player well-being.
Fair Play: Emphasize the importance of fair play, honesty, and respect for the rules of the game, opponents, and officials.
Effective Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with players, parents, and other coaches about team goals, schedules, and expectations. Listen to feedback.
Inclusive Environment: Create an inclusive team culture that values all players and provides opportunities for growth, regardless of skill level. Foster an inclusive and positive team environment where each player feels valued and can contribute their strengths.
Continuous Learning: Coaches should seek opportunities to enhance their coaching skills, stay updated on lacrosse trends, and incorporate innovative training methods.

Suspensions and Expulsions: The General Manager and the Directors of LFLA will deal with unacceptable conduct at its sole discretion, imposing warnings, suspension or expulsion, as it deems appropriate. Any suspension or expulsion based on egregious violations of the above expectation will not be accompanied by a fee refund.
